The year is almost over, and i did not get the expected results. For 2019 i will probably stop the cryptocurrency experiment (it was not a loss, but too close to it, as the total gain after one year is probably right under £3000) because the coins market is still pretty bear-ish. Matched betting was good as usual, given the amount of time spent for it. My portfolio had a slight increase, as i try to still save on First To Buy ISA and to pay the remaining debts. I need to re-work my strategy for the next year, as this year one was proved ineffective. Probably i will become a bit more conservative, given the Brexit approach and the complete chaos on shares market and crypto market.

Hope you have good news in the coming year. Merry Christmas and Ho-Ho-Ho!

I need to admit that i am an amateur, and all you need is lack focus for a moment for everything to go South. How shall i start? The experts use to state that a catastrophe is usually happening not because of one mistake, but a suite of at least 5 severe mistakes. Under 3 mistakes, we are still able to recover. Let's count my own. First, due to a moment of being distracted and not matching, I lost 400 on betting (Error no.1). Second, as you can see the side hustle number 4, if you did not guess, it is about cryptocurrency. Summer 2017, i made about 12.000 after investing 3000. All of them nicely invested. But Bitcoin was growing so fast, i was thinking that maybe i will make it second time. I did not want to take money from investment, so i made a loan. As you can see, the actual value of my loan is now £913, with 4928 spent. The loan is paid with the money invested on The House Crown, a sum of 5000 used one year ago (interest still to be paid). So i lost approx. 80% of what i invested in crypto. Greed is not always good. Third, the lovely Government found out that i need to pay £2200 as tax from some years ago (4-5 years ago, the last three are not yet calculated). I already paid 600, with everything to be paid in the next 4-5 months. Did i stop here? No, of course, i went to spend almost two thousand on two lovely holidays in August and September. (error no.4). And i used almost 500 from a credit card, with a very low interest, but still, error no.5. This is the story of how my net worth decreased with 25% (I have decreased with 7200 in 2 months).

What did i learn? Do not make any loans, if you do not have it cash, you cannot afford it. Whatever you do, check twice, and if it is to risky, just stop. Or, according to the previous rule, invest what you can afford to lose. Always pay your credit cards in full. And the final one, if you are having not enough cash, do not go on spending free.

Except all this ranting about my loss, the debt is clearing up nicely, the pension increase slowly every months, and my side hustles are not bringing much profit and are just using my free time. I will try a different approach, according to the Pareto principle, focusing 20% of my time on the activity that is bringing 80% of the results, and just stop doing the others. This series of unfortunate events will not deter me from my way, and i am restarting the quest adjusting my strategies once more. Main focus is on building a solid cash reserve, and only after to invest some more. I am thinking of maximizing my TSB account, as they are paying 3% up to 1500 and the Santander123 as they are paying 1.50% up to 15000. If you know a better alternative to keep cash available, tell me please.

Have a beautiful week!

Relocating as saving option

As i read about some people struggling with the new achieved financial independence (really people, it this a real thing?), i decided to have some test runs, and to live for 10 days in two of the countries i was considering for retirement (this being Morocco and Italy - Sicily). I went to Morocco as i always wanted to see how it is to live in a hot country (as opposed to the rainy and windy Britain). And boy, how i could be wrong, as i am not prepared to live in a hot, tropical country yet. Test success achieved, and some lessons were learned. The second choice was Sicily, as the climate is more friendly, the food is awesome and i could use the full immersion in the Sicilian culture to speak my long forgotten Italian. This time was pleasant enough, and the results were positive, but i'm afraid that i could become bored over time if i lack a clear objective and some activity schedule. But that being said, one can be bored easily everywhere in the world, right. Sicily good points where 3-500 euro monthly rent for a nice flat or small house (why would you need more), food cost was 10-20% less than England if you cook, with 30-50 % less in restaurant if you don't - but still more expensive than the cooking option), the heat combined with a Mediterranean diet is keeping you from gaining weight, and you have seaside swimming ready nearly 6 months per year.

But this came with a cost - £1000 for Morocco and £820 for Sicily, both 10 days for 2 people. And included plenty of trips and exploring. In conclusion, now i need to build my cash reserves back, with should be not so hard as my next holiday is scheduled in May 2019.

Have a nice day!
G.

Side hustle 4 value: £520 (Funds:4528)

Total portfolio going up a bit, but the net worth increased with £337, as the debt is slowly decreasing. The investment in UK increased with half a grant, so i am pleased with this. Cash reserves are low, as i am getting ready to my next 2 holidays in two months. passive income was decent, thanks to £476 from World Cup match betting, which is not too awesome as i was taken by surprise by Germany loss. Side hustle 4 slightly increased, but not by much, as the crypto-market is still down.

My main hope is to be on the positive side at the end of September, after all the holiday madness and other expected and unexpected expenses. We will see what the summer breeze will bring with it!

Have a wonderful tan! See you!

Side hustle 4 value: £462 (Funds:4548)

What a month! What a story!

Not many changes, as a loan taken at the end of the year seems to stop all my growth (learn from my mistakes, not from yours). Anyway, it is half paid, and i am trying to pay it ASAP. Surprisingly, the net worth is up by £71, which it is a win for me. The two incoming holidays are not helping either, but we need to recover for time t time, so i put that on the good(ies) list, as the improved rest and productivity will make a difference.Due to economic environment, the investments are down by £7 (the horror!). Passive income is less than expected, as the matched betting will be counted at the end of July (World Cup was over June and July). I should probably focus a bit more on matched betting, and i decided to use a separate card for it, hoping to accumulate there all my future winnings. Cryptocurrency is still not moving much, so i am just waiting for the market to move first.

May 2018 - Monthly report

My Overview

Total portfolio: £32284 (-95)
Debt: £4129 (-400)
External funds: ZERO
Car: No
Net Worth: £28155 (+305)

Investments UK: £16882(-750)
Investments overseas : £3606 ( -300)
Cash: £1487(+427)
Pension: £9606(+111)

Total Income: £1572(-249)
Passive income: £119 (7.57%)
Savings rate: 14%

Side hustle 2 value: £3.70
Side hustle 3 value: £101.75 (Profit March - 200)
Side hustle 4 value: £484 (Funds:4653)

Net worth increased as i was saved a bit more in cash reserves, just to buy flights for my future holidays right after (cost for two for two flights return - 800). Debt is decreasing, but not as much as i would want, so this is one of my priorities, and the interest saved will be reinvested monthly. As i used the money from savings, i can see a 750 drop in investments. Pension is increasing steadily and the passive income was free falling, as i got through a bit of burnout phase. Crypto market is still free falling, with a decrease from 700 to 484, but i am building some nice portfolio aiming for the future. Match betting was not the priority in May, with  big error from my side, which resulted in approx. 320 loss and only 101 pounds profit left. But this month is the world cup, with some decent bets, so i hope to go over 300. Saving rate is still low, mainly due to the loan that i pay monthly, leaving me with only 220 left for savings.

I hope June will be a bit better than May.

Best regards
G.

Preview May 2018

This was a difficult month, and i was slowly running away from my FIRE objective. It is harder and harder for me to achieve my goals, because of a loan that i took in times of need. Now seems that is sitting screwed on my brain, and the only way to achieve piece is to pay it completely, as soon as possible, instead of waiting the whole 5 years for the monthly payments. The rest of the work is still in progress, and i will probably do not see much profit until the summer of 2019. I am not very patient at the time. I made also a major mistake with the match betting, also not the same magnitude of the previous one (1500), this time it was only 320 of my profit, and hopefully i learned to not repeat it in the same way. I will probably have a minimal profit on matched betting this month, and i used a good part of the cash reserves to book flights for two future holidays in August and September. I try to use the passive income for the coming holidays, as i do not want to get money fro my wages.

Let's see what future brings (Hopefully a lot of luck in the coming World Cup betting)!

The numbers will be posted as soon as the month is finished.

Side hustle 4 value: £757 (Funds:4653)

This month I was slightly over-working, with little to no break. I am aware of this, and i will try to relax in May. Th net worth increased with more than 800, with almost 600 on the portfolio increase and 249 debt reduction. The investments overseas took a hit due to the pound losing value, while the ones in UK slightly increased. Monthly income was a bit lower, with only 11% passive, mostly because of a miscalculation on matched betting (lost some bets and got only 200 profit instead of the average 3-400). The saving rate is still quite low, because i am paying at least 300 out of the debt every month. As major expenses, i an thinking to build an ethereum mining rig and to go in two holidays, in August and September, 10 days each. I am confident that i will manage to hit at least some winning jackpots with crypto, as i got some small amounts of altcoins growing up quite nicely. I am focusing of Proof of Stake altcoins such as Neo and Gridcoin (PoS means monthly or even daily interest if i will manage to get a significant amount).

Crypto corner - Free bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies

To continue my series, i got two decent opportunities, working well especially for teenagers, but also for anyone having some spare time in front of the computer (like a night shift for example, not that i am confirming that this is what i do to keep myself awake at work when i am bored).

First company is called EarnCrypto.com, and you have various tasks, from completing surveys to watching commercials or playing Facebook games (wink-wink), and while the payments are not very big, you can focus on one crypto which you believe will increase in the future, and this is even better it that altcoin is Proof of Stake (PoS is a protocol enabling them to pay you interest for the coins that you keep in the official account/wallet). Suggesting Gridcoin, but feel free to choose another (Verge for example increased in the past few days in increments of 20%).

Another interesting one is Earn.com, where, despite a complicated process of profile verification, you can do little surveys (3-6 questions/tasks) and be paid in Bitcoin for it. A task can take 10-60 seconds, but there will be only few per week. In order to do it fast, you need to make a wallet on myetherwallet.com and keep a copy of the account handy, and one account to Telegram messenger. The task will ask you to put your Etherwallet and to connect the to your Telegram. And there it is, some bitcoin for you.

Free bitcoins - is this possible?

I will post something about 2 new strategies to get free crypto-currencies as soon as i have a bit of free time. In a way, because you pay with your attention.

Side hustle 4 value: £489 (Funds:4761)

A slight increase, and not a bad month overall. I got few expected and unexpected expenses, such as a big electric/gas bill and flight tickets for 1 week trip to Romania, but also some extra hours at work (10 more shifts, in order to make a bit extra for my following trip). Debt are going down by £430, and I am also trying to build some extra cash reserves from now on as we got two holidays to arrange in August and September. Not a great saving rate this month due to the aforementioned expenses. But the monthly balance was positive, so i marked as a win.

Cryptocurrency corner

One of the alternatives to shares and real estate could be soon what they call PoS crypto, also known for the long name of Proof of Stake coins. These coins need to be staked in a fully updated wallet, in order to keep the last version of the block-chain. In exchange, they receive stakes of the named coin (the ROI varies between 4-10% normally). Anyway, not all of them are equal, and some offer the same coin (Neblio for example), while other are offering a different coin, like shares are offering dividends (NEO offering GAS).

One of those freshly discovered coins is called Neblio (NEBL), and it is offering a 10% interest for staking annually. This coin was 0.2$ in September, and now it is 12-13%, with a good potential to grow a bit more. What is the concept behind this cryptocurrency? Blockchain’s unique distributed ledger technology is what makes the Neblio Network possible. This decentralized system of securely storing transactions is the future of database technology for global networks. Enterprise applications taking advantage of this technology gain numerous benefits over those using traditional database architectures including transaction immutability, transparency, security, reliability, and decentralization. Despite the maturity of blockchain networks, few applications have taken advantage of the technology due to the difficulty, and cost of integration and maintenance. Unlike legacy blockchain networks, next-generation blockchain networks such as Neblio will fill the huge gap in the enterprise market to simplify the development and deployment of distributed applications that drive business value through blockchain technology.

So, in order to receive 1 coin per day, you need to stake 365x365 coins (estimate value 43k $). This is a gamble, but if the price will go to the perceived value (60$), then you can receive on average 1800$ monthly, doubling your investment in less than 2 years from staking, with a total value of approx. 8 millions.

Of course, this coin was used just as an example for Proof of Stake, and i am not involved in any way in this coin promotion. You should always invest your money based on your own research.

Side hustle 3 value: £118 (Profit Ianuarie = 413)

Side hustle 4 value: £604 (Funds:4854)

This month was a good month, even if the numbers are inconclusive. The side hustles were not the main focus, as we tried our best to finish the house renovation according to the schedule, and tenants moved in at the end of the month (28.2.18). The final numbers were £2460, spent on painting (whole house), carpet change (whole house), bathroom renovation (new floor, new shower curtain and pools, new front and side panel for bathtub and waterproofing), new curtains pools and new curtains (whole house) and few odds jobs around (handles, side rail etc). The cash reserves are close to zero and need to be re-done. But once i got around March expenses, we should slowly build them back. I have also published 2 new books in February, my fourth poetry book and the one about diet (after 3-4 years of work in progress).

Medium Platform

As it seems that the Medium Platform is the latest trend in blog's world, i try to power-boost my way over there with 3 posts per day for 60 days.

Week 1 payment - 0.07$

I am just curious about the week 8 payment ( or month 3), whichever will come first. I am being lazy with the content, practically i am importing the last 5 years posts from my creativity and science blog.

I will come back with news about it.

Real estate crowdfunding

As for two of the websites i use for this specific investment, propertymoose.co.uk  just increased the minimum investment at £100 (it was £10 before), while thehousecrowd.com has £1000 as minimum investment.

First one yearly returns are somewhere at 5-7% after tax, while for the second is 7-9% after tax.

Motivational

When i was little,

in my dreams,

i was always flying.

Sometimes close to the earth,

sometimes up in the sky,

but the fly

it was just a metaphor

for freedom.

Now i grow up,

and i stopped flying.

I wonder why?

(Retirement or work, all of them are also just metaphors, but behind them is hidden the idea of freedom, and how or if we achieve it, it is only depending on us. Be active and start right not. Do a small action towards your total freedom. Good luck!)

Not so good on the numbers this month, due to renovation of the rental house and the cryptocurrency decline. But the house is almost ready to go, and we have some prospective tenants, with only the gas safety check to be done tomorrow. One major cause of almost £9000 in expenses was moving in a new property and renting the old one, after some serious renovations, so hopefully we start to build the savings back from now on. Another cause of £1516 decrease in investments was due to cryptocurrency dip (based on a £4944 initial portfolio), but if it is not one of those mistakes done now and then in life, i will see the results in December this year.
Side hustle 1 is seriously down, even if is 100% passive. And side hustle 4 is related to cryptocurrency, as you could guess already. All this while matched betting is a constant, with a bit over £400. The future is promising from now on, with utilities (gas, electric, water and council tax) not needing to be payed on the second house as soon as the tenants are in. One set of expenses disappearing, and rent coming in the saving account, things tend to look brighter. I will focus on the side hustle 2 in the near future, and maybe something will move in the right direction over there.

That's all for the moment, thank you for the support, have a nice day!

Zero fee share trade - coming soon

Hello,
I got some good news tonight. Probably you heard about sharedealing platform with zero fees, like Robin Hood in US, or the ones that started to trade share fractions? Well, seems that we will have the best of both in UK, with Free Trade launching soon over here, promoting zero fee and even share fractions. Seems good to me, and can’t wait to test their products.

Fasting - long term and intermittent as a factor in longevity

I was writing before about eating in a 6-10 hours interval and fast for the remaining 14-18 hours as a longevity hack. I was also talking about a monthly 24-72 hours fasting monthly with only water as a boost to health and a major "decrease in the inflammatory processes" hack.

In the following article you will also see an interesting detail, the author referring at health span as opposed to life span. As you guessed, the health span is the interval of life when we are healthy, and that is reminding me of James Dean's words "Ideally is to die young, but as late as possible."

Read full article about food and longevity here. Dr.Jason Fung everyone! Enjoy!

Free books anyone?

Today i will talk about one of my free book money hack, which allows me to have the books that i like with a minimal effort.

Before of after achieving financial independence, all of us are defined by our desire to learn, and books are a key part of this process.

To stop talking to much, i use Amazon's Mechanical Turk website, i select tasks from the best paid to the less paid, and i do few easy tasks every time, out of the best paying ones. In time, you will have a nice amount of money amassed on your amazon account, which i use to buy the books i like. If you dedicate 10 minutes daily, you can easily make up to 1000 per year. Meaning 100 books. If you read them also, given the fact that they are the books you enjoy, think about the compounding effect in personal knowledge.

Good luck.

Faucets (III) as a side hustle

Faucets that work with a microwallet like Coinpot.co .

There are two new faucets that work with this microwallet, and the procedure is the same like in the previous cases.

One is for Bitcoin Cash, the second is for Dash. Both of them are alt-coins with a good change to increase significantly in the future. If you are doing this only for Bitcoin, just claim twice a day, morning and evening. It is also increasing with 1% per day loyalty bonus, so after 100 days you will get double the amount.

The complete list is:

1.Moon Bitcoin Cash
2.Moon Dash
3.Moon Bitcoin
4.Moon Litecoin
5.Moon Dogecoin
6.Bitfun
7.Bonusbitcoin

Access them twice a day, morning and evening. At the end of every week or month exchange everything to one coin (i would suggest Litecoin) and transfer it to your main wallet (I personally use Coinbase). I estimate that you can make a couple of hundreds in Bitcoin yearly. If you have 500 in January 2016, the value in December 2016 would become 15.000. All that it takes is 3 minutes twice a day.

You can see my results in the next picture, starting time being October 2016.

My previous post about it was this one.
Some of the links contain referrals.

Cryptocurrency corner - January II

I found an easier way to dip my fingers into the cryptocurrency universe.

I search for Pre-sale IPO which offer free coins in exchange of advertising the new coin, usually. Read their whitepaper and see which of them got potential.

If one or more of them will grow up, there it is, free money

First one is POW, which give me 33.000 coins for free, worth 5.80$ at the moment, in exchange of you making one account and promotion on Facebook or Twitter (or both).

Second one is WCX, which will give you 50 coins for account and email verified.

Third one DLBX is a bit complicated, as it is asking for 10 referrals, in exchange of tokens for a value of 500$. You will probably need to do an account on etherwallet to get the money.

Fourth is Coinstarter, which will give you 5-10 coins when you register and few more for networking. You will also needs an etherwallet  account, which you already made before for DLBX.

The fifth one is Sphere, with a nice website and a very good marketing campaign. This coin show potential in my opinion. Give you 50 coins to start with. Also needs etherwallet.

And this last one is an Actioncoin, to give you discount for different actions such as drafting, fishing, car racing etc. Seems interesting and will give you 1000 coins on sign-up.

I hope that you will make some profit out of this.

Cryptocurrency corner - January

2017 - yearly report

While in the year 2016 the total income was 35073 with 19202 passive income (54.7%), coming from 8 different sources of income (one being plain old work in a full time job and few part time ones - 15871), in 2017 my total income was 33531 with 17440 passive income (52%) from the same old 8 sources of income (full time job, agency job, crypto-mining, matched betting, interest, royalties, internet and crowdfunding real estate)

I sold the car and in manage to reduce my monthly spending with £100 because of that. I went in three holidays (Italy circuit from north to south, Romania twice - once to take mum and grandma in a week holiday, once with my partner at the seaside). We moved together in September and i played the house designer, being pleased with the results.

I continued to train and try to eat healthy, and sometimes i was more succesful then other times, but i want to improve this area. I plan to work to improve my stretching, core and grip in 2018.

I paid a 3000 loan in 6 months and i took another 6000 one to invest in one side hustle.

So, it was a fruitful and beneficial year for me, i just with that 2018 will be at least that good, if not even better for me and you.

Take care and keep saving, because in terms of business, it is totally worth it to invest 5 years of your life working hard if the result is close to 20-22 years worry free before your retirement s ( return on investment higher that 400%, you cannot get that nowhere in real life financial investment, and we talk about time, a resource much valuable than money.)

The portfolio increased slightly (2047), but the net wealth not so much (1012), mainly because i started to pay the loan (965 this month). The cash reserve continue to decrease, as we are still working on the rental house, but the painting and the new carpet is done, and not much left. Still, i estimate to finish until the end of January, as i am going on a short 4 days holiday in Belgium to start the year with a relaxing mood. Tomorrow i will post the year financial report. Once the house is rented, we can consolidate the cash deposits again, and i am thinking to finish the mortgage (9K left). After that we will probably start to save for a new deposit, as i am thinking to buy a flat for rental purpose. The matched betting was decent this month, even if i did not made a lot of effort on that direction. I cashed in 1652 from cryptocurrency, and i am working this year toward a dual purpose portfolio - one part will focus on creating a mining income, the second on buying promising alt-coins (I keep an eye on Iota, Verge, NEO and Ripple). As soon as the portfolio is build (aiming for £30-35 daily, at the moment i got approx. £6), i will start to redirect the income provided towards dividend paying shares, p2p lending and crowdfunding real estate. We will see what the future will bring!

A happy new year! And a happy saving!
